Nerd Alert!

   'Nerd-Chic'

Sure, I may look ‘normal’ to you, but on the inside I’m a pretty big nerd. My dad had a saying that we were part of the GNORK clan: geek, nerd & dork all in one.

No one said to be random, interested in books and slightly weird meant you had to look the part. You know those hulking glasses constantly falling down your nose, too high pants, a squinty disposition and of course those tight suspenders. Well that’s not me. For the most part I am just a normal young adult (or perhaps I'm at that point where just adult is more appropriate). I can’t seem to shake the nerd inside me though; the one who loves talking about books, doesn't ever want to stop learning, gets excited about theories and giddy when people break into song and dance and I can’t help but want to do the same.

I don’t care if people think I’m odd, people who know me best would probably say it’s one of my best qualities. I like to laugh often and sometimes my humor is quite, quite cheesy. Okay, most of the time it is. I do not claim to be witty, that would be ridiculous. I'm not just a kooky nerd; I like photography, poetry, arts, really great unique music, fashion, and going to rock concerts. Think Steve Urkle meets Stefon Urckle.

Speaking of characters:  If I characterized myself, I would (or in some cases, want to) be a hybrid of:

Luna Lovegood
from Harry Potter {I am rather spacey but seeing imaginary things can be so distracting!}

Bridget Jones
for Bridget Jones Diary {Clumsy, check! An all around regular girl, check! Slightly awkward... um yes. Sense of humor, never! Ok, just kidding.}

Elven maiden Arwen Undómiel from the Lord of the Rings {So elegant and magical! Come on, who wouldn't want to be Elven really?}

Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons from game of Thrones {Seriously, she just rocks.}

Suki Stackhouse
from True Blood {bad ass mind reader & friend to the hardcore, heck yeah!}

           Rachel Berry from Glee {I’ll take her voice & confidence any                                                              yes the corkiness too.}

Marianne Dashwood
from Sense and Sensibility {Feisty, socially unaware, poetic, the lover, dreamer, where's her heart on her sleeve...sigh. Yep, me in a nutshell}

Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City {She is just me and I am her in so many ways...}

Zoey Deschanel
{Corky and real. Okay she isn't a fictional character, but she is a character merely being her self which is awesome}

An odd mix perhaps but there it is.

This site will just be an accumulation of my randomness as shown above; I have friends and family who would attest that it is one of my prominent markers. That or it’s adult A.D.D.  But let’s just pretend it’s a creative, busy mind at work. Possibly even genius [wink wink]. Well, one that doesn't involve scientific data. One thing I am not is a tech geek (not that I wouldn't mind being smart enough for that). I don’t know the first thing about how to build computers, and quantum physics makes my brain hurt and will often leave me biting my nails with the bed sheets nearly up to my eyeballs just trying to fathom it. Space is very scary-- awesome! But scary. (Did I mention that I am a bonafide "worry wart"? --also tokened for me by my father).

Point is: I love the likes of things such as Science Friday on NPR but also love Music festivals with their hippie's and cool musicians. Go figure I’d be a half-breed.

  1. "But let's pretend it's creative."
